Tell Me A Story

Throughout my childhood, my favorite things were reading (or being read to), and poring over old family photographs. The two aren't so different: After all, each photo tells a story in the frame. I've been a writer since I learned to read and write, and began taking pictures not long after that. My first camera was a Polaroid Instamatic, a cherished Christmas gift when I was nine. I'm rarely without a camera in tow, and consequently am a terrible hiking or travel companion, since I repeatedly stop to get "just one more shot." (My children jokingly call me Mamarazzi.) Photography allows me to tell stories in pictures, and preserve those memories for years to come. Whether writing or taking photographs, my life's purpose is to notice, cherish, and document life.

Don't Look!

While I'm happy to take a posed portrait, I cherish shooting candid moments. I delight in capturing people being their authentic selves.

Having spent ten of the past eleven summers watching my kids swim summer rec, I've taken literally hundreds of thousands of photos at swim meets. I find it incredibly rewarding to get that perfect shot that highlights swimmers' unique personalities both in and out of the water.

Somewhere Between Orange & Blue

I prefer shooting in natural light, somewhere between orange (sunrise, sunset) and blue (dusk, dawn). I love seeing how the subjects reflect that light back to the lens. Having lived on both coasts and in between, I can tell you there's nothing like the light in California. We truly are in the Golden State. Lucky us!
